My airbag warning light stays on and horn doesnt work-Vauxhall Corsa?

I had a code test done and it said there was a faulty squib. Do I buy a new squib and get it done myself, or should I put it in the Vauxhall garage and let them get on with it?

change it yourself if you have basic mechanical skills, it does not require programming
Reply:Probably best letting Vauxhall garage do it as it will probably need reprogramming.....but can i suggest you check the terminals behind the unit first ,as we have a vauxhall fleet and a few of the movanos had shown up as having faulty unit but in fact it was loose connections at the back
Reply:Any main dealer garages will charge you a mint. buy it yourself but not from a main dealer and get a local mechanic to fit it.
Reply:The clockspring is a ribbon wire that is coiled up inside the steering column. Once you remove the airbag module and the steering wheel, it is usually the very next component stacked in the column. It delivers current to all of the systems mentioned above, airbag, cruise control and horn. When it fails (and they do a lot) the wire breaks leaving the circuit open and inoperative. This will cause the airbag light to come on and shut down the system. As long as that light is on, the airbags will NOT deploy, even in an accident.
