Why does my horn go off when I reconnect my negative battery cable on my 94 VW Jetta? No factory radio in car.

I disconnected the neg terminal, like my manual said, so I could work on the electrical system, but now when I go to reconnect the battery, the horn blares at me without stopping. Do I have the disconnect something else? It can't be the radio, because I don't even have the factory radio in anymore. Do I have the pull a certain fuse? Help!

Its your factory alarm. all you have to do is put the your key in the door lock and disarm the factory alarm. turn it which ever way is to unlock your doors. it should stop the horn. its just the same as an aftermarket. when you disconnect the battery it resets itself. theres nothing wrong with your car.
Reply:The new Vw's from that year, have a default on the Alarm System. And at some times the computer has to knowledge the key in the ignition for a restart, which at times the key has to be programed to the on board computer. This prevents someone to steal the vehicle. The newer systems on the german cars are better and prevent starting the car without a programed key, which is coded with the pcm. That why you cant go out and have a key cut, and then try to start the car, it will crank, but turn its self off in a few seconds. Also the horn will also blow when the battery is weak or low.

I have in the past have placed a charger between the negative battery cable, and positive so not to prevent loss of power to the on board computer: some even use a cigerette adapter to achieve this, but I have not had in luck in these devices.
Reply:reset the alarm
