Where is the location of posterior horn of the medial meniscus?

I hurt my knee, and recently had an MRI done. They said I had a complex tear of posterior horn of my medial meniscus. And I was wonder if that is on the inside or the outside of the left knee? But I cannot tell for myself because I still have pain all over my knee.

Where is the location of posterior horn of the medial meniscus?
o.k so u have a complex tear of the posterior horn of the medial meniscus.

lets break it down....

the meniscus is the cusions that keeps the bones in ur knee from rubbing together and ur knee from locking.

the posterior horn is in the back ridge or bend of the mencusi

and medial refers to the side of the knee which the injury is on, which is the inside...

Sometimes for meniscual tear the Dr will reccommend PT to try and allow the injury to heal or even cortizone shots which will also promote healing. however a complex tear is a pretty significant tear and will probably require surgery. depending if the surgeon removes or repairs the menicus will determine the length of recovery.

If the tear is repaired the recovery can be up to 6 months, with the first 6 weeks on crutches and in a knee immobolizer. This is due to the sensitivity of the sticthes which are used to hold the repaired meniscus in place and allow it to heal

whereas if the DR decides to just remove the menicus then recovery will be anywhere from 4-6 weeks and u will probably only be on crutches for a couple of days.

Repair vs. removing will depend on the severity of the injury, your age, and activity level... for example if u are an athlete then the Dr will probably juat remove the meniscus so that u can get back to "normal" activities as soon as possible.

In your case since u have a complex tear and because of the location of the injury u will more likley then not be facing surgery to remove rather then repair the meniscus. the problem with removing however is that once its gone u will have bone on bone unless the replace it with cadaver meniscus which is possible and will help to keep ur knee form degenerating

Best of Luck and try to keep us informed

email me if u have any questions
Reply:the medial meniscus is on the inner side of ur knee. and yes you will require surgery. if its repairable by stitching the tear together, then rehab takes longer. mostlikely ur on crutches for a month to 6 weeks. it really depends on the dr. if they remove the torn part of the meniscus then the rehab time should be less time. Mostilkely rehab totally will last for a few months.
Reply:Its inside your knee and is the cartilage that lubricates the movement of your knee. Also that is what the disease Arthritis attacks. Posterior is the back, so it's near your popleteal fossa.

Medial means near the mid line of your body. So you have damage at the back near the inner part of your knee.
Reply:It is on the inside of the middle of your knee.I had a similar injury last year.Good Luck with your healing.
