If she howls at sirens I doubt she's deaf. BUT if you wold be more comfortable dog hearing CAN be tested via a BAER hearing test (some as human infants). THe dalmation club (who have a major deafness problem) has a webpage with places to contact for the test

How much will it cost to fix my blinkers?
1992 Pontiac Grand Am. Need to sell it but the blinkers, horn, and dome lights do not work. I have replaced all of the fuses and no luck. Flashers work, but blinkers won't even turn on. They used to work and then suddenly they stopped. Same with the horn and inside lights (abovehead lights don't work, lights on feet of passenger do). Want to know rough estimate of cost of fixing this before selling. Any thoughts? Thanks.

Football is big in Texas, and the UT has been successful at it. I think caps are stupid in all cases. I've noticed that when I see a car driving like a damn fool it will be manned by somebody wearing a cap. I think caps cut the blood supply to the head so they act like idiots.

That's why when an ambulance goes through, all the traffic signals turn green for them.
However when I was in New York, I did notice that more people honk their horns. You have to factor in the fact that there's more traffic per square in Manhattan than anywhere else in the world; which results in more traffic congestion and more frustration. Hence, more horn honking.

The method for double tonguing on the horn is a syllable method just like single tonguing: Ta-Ka-To or Ta-Ka-Ta are some common example. However since horn playing usually uses a soft tongue, I would recommend Da-Ga-Do or Da-Ga-Da. Just work with whatever you are comfortable this.
However, every person I have talked to about learning to double tongue has warned that after they got it down, they found that their single tonguing suffered.
Now, I have played the horn for more than 17 years, and in that time I have played a good portion of the literature. I have yet to encounter something that required me to use double tonguing. So my question to you is, what are you working on?

Single tounging is like saying Te - Te - Te - Te (image playing four quarter notes presto)
Double tounging is like saying De Dur - De Dur - De Dur - De Dur (imagine playing eight eighth notes presto) - The tongue will move toward the front of your mouth on "De" and toward the rear of your mouth on "Dur".
Triple tounging puts them all together for fast triplets and is like saying Te Dur De - Te Dur De - Te Dur De - Te Dur De.
Like they always say...if you can't say it, you cant play it.

Reply:Double tonguing is done by motioning the tongue in a pattern as if you were pronouncing the syllables ta-ka,ta-ka,ta-ka....
Triple tonguing is done with ta-ka-ta,ta-ka-ta,...
These techniques allow you to articulate notes much faster than if you were to just do the normal, ta-ta-ta-ta type tonguing.
With double/triple tonguing, you can articulate faster notes easier. Typically, double tonguing would be used on fast eighth/sixteenth notes, while triple tonguing would be used on fast triplets.
Reply:for more staccato passages use ta-ka ta-ka (almost like taco) the first syllable is produced as a you normally would tongue, the second comes from the back of ur thought, for more legato notes use a du-gu du-gu pattern, same principle it just produces a slightly smoother sound, double tongue for duple notes (notes in multiples of 2)
triple tonguing uses the same sounds just in a ta-ta-ka ta-ta-ka or du-du-ga du-du-ga pattern, and is used for triplets (multiples of 3)
use double/triple tonguing sparingly, if u can single tongue it will sound better, I mainly use double/triple tonguing for short bursts of repeated notes, to avoid using it so much to single togue faster make sure ur tongue is light and don't smack it against ur teetch, just lighly touch it and it will almost bounce of and hit it again just gain control of this "bounce" (it requires force but once u get it, it feels like ur tongue is really just bouncing on and off of the back of ur teeth)
to practice double tonguing just go around saying those syllables to urself with ur lips together while breathing out of ur mouth to simulate the backpressure of an instrument

The method for double tonguing on the horn is a syllable method just like single tonguing: Ta-Ka-To or Ta-Ka-Ta are some common example. However since horn playing usually uses a soft tongue, I would recommend Da-Ga-Do or Da-Ga-Da. Just work with whatever you are comfortable this.
However, every person I have talked to about learning to double tongue has warned that after they got it down, they found that their single tonguing suffered.
Now, I have played the horn for more than 17 years, and in that time I have played a good portion of the literature. I have yet to encounter something that required me to use double tonguing. So my question to you is, what are you working on?

Actually, it's the same process on all brass instruments. The technique involves the position of your tongue in relation to the roof of your mouth.
Single tounging is like saying Te - Te - Te - Te (image playing four quarter notes presto)
Double tounging is like saying De Dur - De Dur - De Dur - De Dur (imagine playing eight eighth notes presto) - The tongue will move toward the front of your mouth on "De" and toward the rear of your mouth on "Dur".
Triple tounging puts them all together for fast triplets and is like saying Te Dur De - Te Dur De - Te Dur De - Te Dur De.
Like they always say...if you can't say it, you cant play it.

Reply:Double tonguing is done by motioning the tongue in a pattern as if you were pronouncing the syllables ta-ka,ta-ka,ta-ka....
Triple tonguing is done with ta-ka-ta,ta-ka-ta,...
These techniques allow you to articulate notes much faster than if you were to just do the normal, ta-ta-ta-ta type tonguing.
With double/triple tonguing, you can articulate faster notes easier. Typically, double tonguing would be used on fast eighth/sixteenth notes, while triple tonguing would be used on fast triplets.
Reply:for more staccato passages use ta-ka ta-ka (almost like taco) the first syllable is produced as a you normally would tongue, the second comes from the back of ur thought, for more legato notes use a du-gu du-gu pattern, same principle it just produces a slightly smoother sound, double tongue for duple notes (notes in multiples of 2)
triple tonguing uses the same sounds just in a ta-ta-ka ta-ta-ka or du-du-ga du-du-ga pattern, and is used for triplets (multiples of 3)
use double/triple tonguing sparingly, if u can single tongue it will sound better, I mainly use double/triple tonguing for short bursts of repeated notes, to avoid using it so much to single togue faster make sure ur tongue is light and don't smack it against ur teetch, just lighly touch it and it will almost bounce of and hit it again just gain control of this "bounce" (it requires force but once u get it, it feels like ur tongue is really just bouncing on and off of the back of ur teeth)
to practice double tonguing just go around saying those syllables to urself with ur lips together while breathing out of ur mouth to simulate the backpressure of an instrument

Why do republicans constantly toot the moral horn like they have some kind of lock on the subject?
Personally I think this administration and more then a few republican congress-people in the last six years, have shown a total disdain for moral and ethical behavior in their own lives. How can some people keep believing the GOP is some kind of moral beacon? For those on the religious right, I would take a look at what's happening in your churches, they're no saints either. The point, shouldn't morals be something we practice individually and not dictated to us as a herd?

I just got my region music today and I would like to start practicing, and recordings would be a huuuuuge help.

Usually etudes aren't recorded by professional artists...they're just little study guides for practice. If recordings DO exist, they'll probably come with the book in which the etudes are contained. If you got the etudes as audition material, you probably just got photocopies of the music, right? Search out the book they came from from a music store and MAYBE they'll have a recording, although I really doubt it.
My best advice to you is to get a few private lessons with a teacher... they'll be able to play it for you so you can hear what it's supposed to sound like.

we've tried almost everything...owl statutes, fence, horns...etc... the lawn stays filled w/ duck crap and they crap like humans

If you own a dog, allowing it outside might help, but then you'll have a crazy, barking dog. If the ducks are just waddling into your yard, rather than flying, and have plenty of green stuff to eat that is NOT in your yard, laying down a swath of pokey, sharp stuff might help. Sharp plants, thorny bushes and such.
Another possibility is to buy a fake predatory bird and place it about 8 feet off the ground. Try to move it daily.
If you make your yard unappealing to ducks, they'll happily avoid it.

I think she needs a neater style for work or interviews. I am willing to shop with her but we always end up arguing. I know she is old enough to make her own choices and this is probably the least of college rebellion. I need assistance in helping her find a neat, professional look that allows for her individuality.

For now, maybe you guys can agree on a piece or two that she can incorporate into her wardrobe. Tell her you will go on a shopping spree with her and will buy EVERYTHING if she just agrees on wearing a few neater, more acceptable items. As far as being top heavy, I'm not sure what the rest of her measurements are, but Lane Bryant has some VERY stylish, sexy, cute clothes for plus sizes.
Try not to be too forceful or she won't listen. Just be accepting of who she is, but just tell her it'd be nice to see her mix up her wardrobe every now and then. Be nice about it, and maybe she'll come around.

It may not be your style, but it's hers- let her show it! If you worried about the first impression she makes in more professional or formal-type settings, that's when you just have to sit down with her and try to explain why painted jeans may not be the best idea. Or, try buying her clothes for her birthday or Christmas that are more professional or clean-looking, and something that could show of a little of her personality, like a scarf or brooch.
If she still doesn't listen and tries tromping off to a few job interviews in less-than-business attire...I'm afraid there isn't much else to be done. She'll discover after the first few rejections that it's probably a good idea to listen to mom's advice. :) It may be hard, but sometimes you just have to sit back and let us figure out how to do things by ourselves.

How do you car drivers feel towards motorcyclists?
when your sat in your car and the traffic is slow moving and a motorbike filters past you do you get annoyed?
I ride a bike and sometimes when i filter through the traffic i get cars that pull out to block my path or get people beeping their horns and verbal abuse. Is this because they think i should sit in the queue like the car drivers? when i filter to the front of the queue
i do feel a lil cheeky but i also feel that i am not making their journey any longer whatsoever. All im saying is that i dont think car drivers should pull out of our way but theres no need to make it more difficult for us.
How do you car drivers feel towards motorcyclists?
I always look out for motorcyclists and give them room to filter through, good on them for using congestion busting transport it's a pity more single occupant drivers do not switch to motorcycles.
Reply:I gave up biking last year after 20 years, figured I'd been lucky long enough. The roads have become far more dangerous because of more traffic and more power in cars and bikes. I do get angry with bikers that go and make arseholes of themselves on big machines because they have superior speed. My last bike could crack nearly 190mph, I occasionally used that power but never to scare the crap out of car drivers. I made sure they knew I was there and yes I often filtered through traffic jams, why add to the congestion?

I'm especially irked when I'm first at the light and some 'jerk' in a motorcycle assumes what HE thinks is his 'right' to 'park' himself in front of me. It's the only time I experience feelings of 'road rage'. A guy on a motorcycle is of no greater value than a guy sitting in a car. He does NOT deserve any 'special privileges'. He should wait in line like everyone else. And not butt in. Think of it as if you were lining up to see a movie. IF you KNEW that there were plenty of tickets for everyone - would you walk to the front of the line?! And by the reaction of many of the driver's who obviously don't approve of what you're doing - you might want to be careful. One day - one of those driver's just might go beyond giving you a dirty look or honking his horn. That said... most motorcyclist are courteous and respectful. You should know that I also 'ride'. I can understand both drivers side and motorcyclists. Im on the fence as speed is wonderful. I do try and pull over when i see a bike in my wing mirror.

It's the same for pedestrians, cars won't stop at a zebra crossing especially when it's raining. I think it's just a sign of the times. Reply:To all the people who make remarks about having to open up doors while on the road and state this as a reason you dislike motorcycles filtering...you should take this into consideration. In most state it is 100% legal for a motorcycle to filter through in the middle of the road, however, it is ILLEGAL for you to open your door unless you are on the shoulder of the road. So before you complain...you should understnad you are the one that would be breaking the law and if you open your door and a motorcyclist hits it...not only would you be responsible, but you should be responsible. Motorcyclists have rights to.
Reply:Actually it is dangerous for you to go between the cars. For all you know my child is sick in the stomach and needs to get out to relieve herself. You can strike her and injure the both of you. But if you time is more valuable than my daughter, then go right ahead and filter through.

The loud unnecessary exhausts, especially on harley davidsons has no excuse.I have even been angered by some jerks at say, a stop sign or redlight, and the revs literally shake things in my car. My car with an exhaust system like that would get a ticket. I hope to get a foriegn quiet bike someday... a person could save petro and money, not to mention the thrill of it.

Could you live with that thought if you didn't move over?
And as one of the two wheel brigade I see nothing wrong in filtering through the traffic as long as you do it carefully. There's no need to try and race through as you know for certain some idiot will come out of line and try to take you out.
Filtering through is one of the benefits of being on two wheels. If car drivers get frustrated at this they should try riding in the freezing cold or pouring rain. They'd soon understand why bikers filter through the traffic jam!
So lets all have a bit of courtesy for our fellow road users. A little politeness and consideration does make a difference. Who knows one day it might be you stuck trying to get into a line of traffic and needing a friendly "you go first mate" flash of the lights.

Reply:I haven't found many cyclists that respect much of the road rules. While you are filtering between the cars, you don't realize that you might be in someone blind spot, they might open the door, decide to change lanes without putting on a flasher, I mean the possibilites are endless.
And then there is not even a need to mention how close to the cars you are. If you catch me on a bad day, trust me , I just migh open my car door on purpose and that person will learn their lesson.
So it's not because we are jalous (well, maybe just 1% jalous), but trust me, its 99% for all the risks you guys cause.

What he was doing was riding towards me in my lane, on the wrong side of solid white lines, in order to beat traffic.
I flashed hom as he was oncoming, but he would not move over, and I had to swerve into the inside lane. I had my 2 year old, and my 1 week old daughters in the back also.
He looked about 55 years old, riding a Harley.
I was well peed off.
OIther than that, bikers have no qualms from me at all.

Reply:I haven't found many cyclists that respect much of the road rules. While you are filtering between the cars, you don't realize that you might be in someone blind spot, they might open the door, decide to change lanes without putting on a flasher, I mean the possibilites are endless.
And then there is not even a need to mention how close to the cars you are. If you catch me on a bad day, trust me , I just migh open my car door on purpose and that person will learn their lesson.
So it's not because we are jalous (well, maybe just 1% jalous), but trust me, its 99% for all the risks you guys cause.

What he was doing was riding towards me in my lane, on the wrong side of solid white lines, in order to beat traffic.
I flashed hom as he was oncoming, but he would not move over, and I had to swerve into the inside lane. I had my 2 year old, and my 1 week old daughters in the back also.
He looked about 55 years old, riding a Harley.
I was well peed off.
OIther than that, bikers have no qualms from me at all.

My dad is trying to replace the horn relay in his 1992 Chrysler New Yorker and has no idea where to even find the old one. He has asked around and no one seems to know the answer either.

I own a shop, and if you look under the hood on the drivers side, you should see a box marked fuses. It should have a clip on each end that you push to release. On the back side of this cover will be a diagram that will tell you which one is for the horn. I would check the fuse, and that the horn itself is not unplugged before I purchased a new relay.

Pop the hood and look around the sidepanels. Work your way back in from there and see where (if) it's disconnected.

How do I raise a rams horn snail?
I have a snail and today I broke it's shell it bled for a little bit but it seems ok it's moving around and obviously looks different but seems to be doing ok i had the tank set up for newts and realized later that the snail was in there, i got rid of the newts but I would like to set up my tank so it's more suitable for the snail. Do I need the filter, live plants, rocks or soil that kind of stuff??? also if anyone knows about the parasite they are supposed to be carrying or could potentially get, that is harmful to humans as well, information about that would be greatly appreciated too, thanks!

swim behind him. grab on to his fur and climb up. when u reach the top of his head. theres gonna be 3 stone things that you have to hit to control him. move him to one of the platforms then jump to the platforms. i think your gonna have to use you're bow and arrow to get his attention. not sure cause i haven't played it in a while. but after he uses that laser/energy attack thing run and jump towards him. this is how your supposed to grab on to him. if you miss then your gonna have to start all over again. then look for the areas to kill him. again i'm not sure where those areas are at because i haven't played that game in a long while.
if u need anymore help just ask me. i think i still have the guide. but i beat this game like 3 times already. if you beat it at least 4 times theres a secret place you can go to. and theres a couple of items to.

According to Direct TV, all week the shows are being replaced with NASCAR Now. Is it just for the Daytona week? I like NASCAR as much as Cowlishaw but not enough to want to miss out on AtH and PTI.

Why does my car squeal when the AC/Heat is on and why doesn't my horn work?

Last summer the AC/heat worked just fine. Since it is starting to get warmer I turned the AC on and the car starts to squeal, and sometimes feels like it is ging to die. This also happens when the heat is on.
I have also noticed that since this problem, the horn has stop working. Yet every once in awhile the horn will work. Are these two problems related?

Reply:Check AC belt, sounds like your AC is trying to lock up being the motor in stalling when AC is turned on. The horn has a short.
Reply:The fan belt is slipping to make the squeal, tighten it, or put a little valve grining compound on the belt. It does it when the heater is on because some cars run the ac with the heater to keep the windshield from fogging up.

Oh, and check the alternator belt too. I've seen that as the cause as well.

Trains and their Honks in San Diego.. why do they blow their horns every time even at nights.?
Can anyone tell me why does the train in San Diego blows the horn all the time?! I may not know why are they doing it. Its so annoying and sick to hear the train blowing the horns all the time even when their tracks are clear.

Trains have to sound the horn whenever they cross an intersection in order to warn vehicles. It's the law. It happens in Flagstaff constantly...train runs every 15 mins day and night. Whaaaa! Whaaaa!..WHHHAAAAAAA!!!

If all of those features are not in place, they are required to blow the horn. As a result, many cities make sure all of those things are in place so that they don't have to deal with the noise. I lived in Columbia, SC for a while, where there is a section of town with just basic crossings... no lights or anything. So they're always blowing their horns through there.

Do you know any good french horn books?
I'm wondering if there is a book that will help me with my french horn playing. Are there any good books you recommend? I'm particulary interested in technique and embochure. Some exercises would be nice too, but that's not a must.

What are the uses of cattle horns?
To human its useless except using it for drinking ale and for keeping gun powder but for the cattle it is kind of a defense mechanism. Rhino horns and elephants tusk are use for making medicine and also for making ornaments,decoration items and ivory pieces but i don't think they are cattle.

Several years ago it was found that the survival of the calves was lower when the mothers had had their horns removed to prevent them (the females) from being poached for their horns (used for decorative dagger handles in some mid-eastern cultures and medicine in some Asiatic cultures).

How do I seperate my fish in a 29 gallon tank?
I have 2 Jack Dempsey and a Flower Horn. The Flower Horn is new to the tank (about 3 weeks) and he is taking over. He doesnt let the other fish eat. Keeps them hiding all the time which is odd because one of my Dempseys was very mean before getting the Flower Horn. I am planning on taking the Flower Horn back to the pet store but until I do I need to seperate him from the others before my Dempsey dies. Anyone have any suggestions on how to do this?

You can go to a pet store or even a Walmart and purchase a tank divider pretty cheap. It's just a piece of plastic or frame with netting that will separate what ever part of the tank you wish to close off, but water still circulates through.
Reply:The problem isn't the fish, it's the tank. You need at a minimum (whether you take the flowerhorn back or not) a minimum of 55+ gallons and heavily filtered. Neo tropical cichlids actually live best by themselves or in larger groups, of at least 4. The bigger fish will make the smaller ones miserable in too small a tank. That's why one of your Dempseys was the 'meanie' before you got the flowerhorn. Neither the Dempsey, nor the Flowerhorn were being 'aggressive', they were trying to establish territory in a tank where there is no room to do so and not enough fish to make a group. I would spend the money on the larger tank and move them all over and you won't have these issues, you need it for the two Jack Dempsey's anyway. If you must, take him back now. A divider can be used but you have to go out to the pet store to get it anyway so if you're going to do that might as well package the flowerhorn up and get him out of there if that's what you want to do.

I bought BR loco horns on ebay i need to adjust them to sound like deltic loco these i think came off class 31
these horns have threaded caps at the rear with adjustable bolt for air supply one horn is long and one short am i right to assume that the short one would be high tone ?
would the horns be lower in tone the further out the bolt is ?
I intend to mount these horns on my semi truck,i tried them out and they sound like they are from a class 31 loco, they do sound great and loud, as my truck puts out 120 psi, i have the 2 way valve as well to operate the 2 tones !
i would love to get real deltic horns though.

Well, you said that you already tried them out and they sound great, so it sounds like you don't need any further adjustment.
