Why did the Nets accept the Kidd trade with Van Horn as a player if it was thought that he wont play?

Some analysts have noted that he was a "key" to the trade going through. The Nets don't appear to be upset that Van Horn could watch the rest of the season and make over 4 million dollars. How does this benefit the Nets if Van Horn doesn't intend on playing?

They needed Keith Van Horn salary to complete the deal so that the money aspect will match.
Reply:just to match salary, they got devin harris!!!
Reply:He's been hanging out with Barry Bonds and Roger Clemens and following their conditioning routines and now he's ready for a major comeback
Reply:Everyone knows Van-Horn will never play but that was the only way this trade would work cuz of devin george and his greedy ways. I heard the NBA wants to banned teams from using players who have not played that season.
Reply:If Van Horn isn't in the deal, then the salaries wont match up and the deal wouldnt happen. plus the Nets dont pay him, the Mavs do.
Reply:A big part of the deal was the obligation to "eat" Van Horn's salary. It had nothing to do with his playing.
Reply:Yeah he does intend playing just 10-15 minutes a game.
