Why is it that in New York people use their horns for everything, but not anywhere else ??

Is that some sort of unspoken rule that it's OK and acceptable or do they encourage that in driving school there or what ??

Well, New York is such a hectic city and everybody is desperate! In California you will get a BIG FAT ticket if you hunk for no reason. cheers, Bella!
Reply:Yeah kind of like over seas. the car or truck with the loudest horn has the right of way. Loved it. You set down on your air horns and they get ouf of your way.
Reply:Um, it's not all that true, some people do just for fun, like my brother. It's funny though. I love it here.





Martha B, New York is not a city, it's a state, New York CITY is a city. No one is desperate, that's what California is for, Wisteria Lane isn't in New York.

Reply:Oh not true my friend! Chicago is the home of the horns. I like in a quiet neighborhood and I hear people beeping for what seems to me, nothing.





Let's not talk about downtown Chicago. Okay, I'll say a little bit. People beeping here and there and the cabbies are the absolute worse!
Reply:I live in Tennessee and I use my horn a whole lot. I mostly do it because when the traffic signals are red, I can honk and they will turn green. Well, most of the older ones do that. The new ones use wireless transmitters instead. The reason they have these sensors is because of the emergency vehicles. That's why when an ambulance goes through, all the traffic signals turn green for them.





However when I was in New York, I did notice that more people honk their horns. You have to factor in the fact that there's more traffic per square in Manhattan than anywhere else in the world; which results in more traffic congestion and more frustration. Hence, more horn honking.
