The stock horn sound like the roadrunner on helium. OEM's are pricey - are there any decent ones at the local auto parts store or mail order? Preferably low-tone and loud (100db +/-). Easy install would be nice too.
Can anyone recommend a good replacement horn for a 1987 Sportster?
yell real loud
Reply:Check your local auto parts store. They will have a variety.
Most are ugly, but they are cheaper, and they can be hidden.
I've also used an air horn setup like liferyder. It does get attention!
A little too high pitched for me though.
Reply:H-D horn are, have been in the past, manufactured by Delco-Remy. You may know them better as GM. So that is one choice. The other, which I installed on my 'Iron Head' and 'Evo' is a double set air horn. They are easy to hook-up and it gets the attention of cage driver in a BIG way. My air horns on the Evo are mount to front crash bar with the power unit located between down tube. The Iron Head has a mount bracket I made so install the horn on the right down tube, while a cheap radiator clamp is used to mount power supply onto the left down tube. Using the stock wire, fashion and cut needed length of addition power supply wire fitted with a spade end. Plug and go, if you don't like them (or do) they can easily be switched back.
Reply:Here are a couple links with several choices -
