Is it illegal to blow an air horn in a protester's face?

I recently saw a video clip showing a line of protesters blocking entrance to a military recruiting office by linking arms with one another. Clearly one cannot pummel them, so what about a non-physical approach such as an air horn. By the way, police were present, but they were not getting invloved even when passersby could not breakthough the "chain".

Is it illegal to blow an air horn in a protester's face?
yeah it's harassment, or if you cause injury it is assault. however the protesters are tress passing on a military installation and can be arrested by mp's or civilian police.
Reply:Blowing an air horn in anyone's face can be considered a simple assault. Most states and countries define an assault as placing the victim in fear of receiving a battery.

Why a battery? Well as it says on the air canister the air horn is dangerous, it can cause loss of hearing. For the same reason your victim could sue you civilly for any damage to their hearing.

Now if a protester is blocking your access on the public way the police should 1. try to make them stop peacefully 2. move them out of the way or 3. arrest them.

There can be reason of the greater good for them not to do anything. For example if they believe that getting you free immediate access will cause danger to a greater number of people or property they may do nothing, unless there is an overt physical act on someone's part.
Reply:I would assume that blowing an air horn in their face would be considered assault. But I'm not sure.

I would have walked right through them.

If a kid can't get through a bunch of hippies, he's probably better off not being in the military.
Reply:It might be possible that a person could claim ear nerve damage from a horn. I would just go under their arms or call ahead and ask for someone at the recruiting office to escort you inside. Good luck.
Reply:If the horn could be shown to have caused ear damage, the law might think to make someone whole by compensating them for it.

Otherwise, I can't see any other way.
Reply:if they were truly blocking the entrance they would be in violation of fire safety codes and would have been removed or arrested.
Reply:In ariz and wisc it would be legal. Unk about other states
