Can anybody identify a beetle 20mm long, black, thinbodied, recently found in this house?

We have searched google and yahoo images with no luck. It appears overnight, has no horns, no wings, and can move quite fast. Not a good climber, when it falls there is a loud clatter from its shell.

Can anybody identify a beetle 20mm long, black, thinbodied, recently found in this house?
Or maybe a Devil's Coach-horse... One of my own personal favourites...

Have you noticed it curl up it's abdomen scorpion style?
Reply:that would depend on what colour your front door is.
Reply:It could be a Ringous, Paulositia, Johnsuation, or Georgian. Search these names on Google for pics!
