Why do some cows have horns and others don't ?

well mr ands, hope you got a good explanation for this one too...:) since you allow no mail.. ;) Appreciate answer from everybody of course :)

Why do some cows have horns and others don't ?
Because some cows are still real cows...that's why :)
Reply:Cows with no horns got their horns burned off with a soldering iron like thing when they were calves, thus preventing them from damaging themselves, equipment and humans.

Cows with horns are cows the way cows are meant to be though. Report It

Reply:The ones that don't are known as "polled". Basically, the buds are nipped off when they are calves. That way they can't use them to gore the rancher or other cows when they are older.
Reply:The one's w/ horns are steers....
Reply:Some cattle are "polled" which means either de-horned or most likely bred for no horns.

Oh, heifers/cows are female bovine and steers/bulls are male bovine.
Reply:male vs female?
Reply:the guys have big horns and the girls have if any tiny ones
Reply:because they're not cows. They're bulls!
Reply:some are more fashionable than others

horns are soooo last year
Reply:genetics
Reply:It's genetic. Some cow breeds have horns and others don't. I was raised on a farm/ranch, so I actually know this is fact!
Reply:cows: no horns

Bulls: horns
Reply:i think the ones with horns are bulls silly
Reply:Some cattle don't have horns due to several generations of breeding to not have horns. Both sexes can have horns and others, no horns at all with either sex. This is called "polled."

Sometimes the horns are cut off or, with calves, burned off chemically with caustic soda.

Heifers are young females that haven't had a calf and steers are castrated males
Reply:Some cows are bulls.
Reply:Some cows do not feel as rushed as others.
Reply:for the same reason some dogs are bigger and other smaller, its all about the variety in a single specie
Reply:many cows are de-horned for safety if they are farmed. Male cows that have horns are either steers or bulls.
Reply:cows dont have horns..bulls do
Reply:The cows with horns are bulls
Reply:The cows that have horns are Male's there actually bulls and the female cows don't have horns.
Reply:Probably for the same reasons people have getting into trouble! and some don't ! LOL. Seriously I would imagine that some have their horns been cut off or removed because they were too aggressive and could hurt the bull !!! Ha. Ha. Ha. Good question. I love it!
Reply:all the cows have horns but some of them have lost it
Reply:the cows that don't have horns have just had them cut off
Reply:the ones with the horns are male
