I'm building a beaver costume for Halloween. Any suggestions for materials to make the teeth out of?

I'm also working on a Minotaur.. any suggestions for lightweight material for horns?

If it were me making the costume I would use something called Sculpey. It's a polymer clay that you can bake in the oven at 275 in about 10-15 minutes. Afterward you can sand it, carve it, add more clay to it and re bake it. You can also paint it with an acrylic base paint. Since it's clay you can have attachments baked right into it or you can glue it with hot glue or super glue. With Sculpey you can make the teeth as big and goofy as you want. Foam would work too, but it tends to make a bit of a mess and it's very light. Sculpey is light too, but it has some solidity to it and a bit more weight. Good luck and have fun!


By the way, you can get Sculpey at Walmart in the craft section. It comes in plain white or you may be able to get it in colors too. If you can't find it there any hobby/art supply store should have it...or an equivalent

Reply:For the beaver teeth, I think you should use the plastic from some window blinds. It's white and thin enough to cut with scissors. For horns, I would go with papier mache - it can look really good with just glue and poster paint. If you don't like papier mache, you might want to cut up something like a foam cupholder or another piece of foam that can be sculpted and painted.

Reply:Ok for the teeth I'd say foam core. It's basically a thin sheet of foam sandwhiched between two sheets of poster board. It's actually more rigid than it sounds. It's pretty easy to cut with a sharp blade and is available at any craft store or Wal-Mart.


For the horns I'd suggest using chicken wire as your form, it's cheap and easy to cut and shape into what you want. Then just do some paper mache over the top of it. Or you could use tin foil which is quicker, and a bit easier, but it isn't a sturdy and has a lot more texture than if you went with the paper mache.
Reply:Use Chicklets chewing gum to make your beaver teeth. If they are to be attached to your teeth, use chewed gum to attach them. If attached toa costume, use Elmer's glue.
