I have a 1997 Buick Skylark, and the horn only does this when it is really cold outside (10s-20s F). I know I can just easily pull the fuse, but I would like to know if anyone has any ideas as of why this is happening.
Recently my car horn just goes off randomly when I am not in the car. What is the cause of this?
Since the only way to energize the horns is by grounding the coil side of the relay, I would suspect that during periods of extreme cold, some portion of the circuit in the steering column is making contact with ground. If you wanted to make sure then I would disconnect the turn signal connector at the bottom of the column. If the horns do not activate during the cold weather then you have indeed narrowed the problem to the components in the column. If the horns do sound then replace the horn relay.
Reply:I have similar problem with my 1997 Buick skylark. Mine not only goes off in the cold but also at random. I removed the air bag but could not proceed any farther as the sticker warned of inflating the air bag. I believe the problem is within the air bag and relay. What do you think? Rich Report It
Reply:if the car has a alarm it might have a connection problem or the horn relay could be at fault get a test done on them. good luck
Reply:maybe it's haunted....
....oooooo -- spooky
lol
i would guess some sort of short somewhere. might be kinda hard to pin down. i would take it in to see if they can check it out for you.
